YOGA TEACHER TRAINING MANUAL

You have no idea what you can become when you are focused on satisfying your basic survival needs. Your ego is running the show. Only when you learn to listen to your soul and nurture its desires can you blend your mind with your souls calling. This is when you begin to wake up to who you are and explore a purpose led life. The transition happens when you begin to reconstruct your thought patterns and envision a future that's beyond satisfying your ego - mind and social conformity. Compared to the long- term benefits the costs of getting such help are relatively trivial.

Our system for Yoga Teacher Training is designed for you to experience yoga as the science of life. It weaves the ancient teachings into practical methods so you can experience the wisdom of the teachings in modern life. The integration of wisdom, knowledge, and practicum paves the way for you to experience life in harmony, and equnamity. It gives you the confidence to make life decisions from a place of wisdom and helps you respond to lifes up and downs instead of reacting to them.

TESTIMONIALS

  • Catrine Faucher

I had a great experience with Shanti Traditional School of Yoga and their amazing teachers. I came into the program wanting to use the learning for self-care and growth, but I ended up with that AND the feeling that I started a recovering process...what a beautiful gift. I was searching a school with teachers that were grounded, authentic, professional, passionate, present and loving, and I had Uriel, Kyla and Taylor. Being from Québec and traveling to Nova Scotia to learn from them was a really good decision and I hope to be able to travel back there soon to continue my student path with them. Thanks a lot, sending big hugs.

  • Heather MacLean

The YTT at Shanti Hot Yoga gave me the knowledge and confidence to go out into the professional world and safely and competently teach.

Additionally, it was an emotionally enriching experience which promoted spiritual and personal growth. The teachers were extremely committed and gave the program and its students their entire focus. They were present throughout the entire process and were always available for additional help and guidance after hours.

  • Adam Lorette

The professionalism and breadth and depth of knowledge was amazing.

3 different teachers with 3 vastly different styles and areas of interest brought together profound learning. This school made yoga training accessible even if you had never done yoga before and opens doors into your mind and body and breath that perhaps you never would have discovered before. I would recommend this school to literally everyone whether you intended to teach or not. The value of the curriculum and the expression of knowledge brought by each instructor was beautiful.

  • Kait Dutcher

    This team of dedicated teachers have put a lot of work in to the structure of their program;

I couldn't imagine having a better experience than I did training with this crew.

  • E-RYT 500 Hour, Reiki Master

Uriel is a yoga teacher, an entrepreneur, and a leader of transformational Yoga teacher trainings and retreats across the Globe. She is the founder of Shanti Yoga Studios and the Shanti Traditional School of Yoga based in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Having held senior management and marketing roles in Corporate Canada for twenty years she answered the call to become a yoga teacher. A life-changing journey to India to study the ancient teachings would transform her life. Overnight she walked away from everything that she knew and started a phase in her life that would take her on the adventure of a lifetime.

Stepping into her true purpose she recognized that students longed for the same deep transformation in their lives. Her studios and teaching philosophy are guided by the values of the time-honored wisdom teachings of the yoga tradition.

Led by masters such as the late Georg Feurerstein, of the Traditional School of Yoga and world-renowned yoga and meditation teacher Rod Stryker she is a student for life. Having studied Tantra, Vinyasa Krama, and Iyengar yoga, she brings a multi-disciplinary approach to her teaching.

My vision is clear she says: “I believe in the power of yoga to transform lives and inspire students to awaken their soul’s calling”.

  • E-RYT 200

Nikki came to yoga in 2011. Drawn by the strength, grace and challenge of arm balances and inversions, and a desire to finally forge a path to peace and happiness in her life. She quickly fell in love with the practice of yoga as a whole and how it enriched all facets of her life, and though she still loves the physical challenges it presents her practice is now driven by spirituality, philosophy, energetics and the powerful impact yoga has both on her life and in the world. She has become a passionate advocate for diversity in yoga and wellness and in 2020 co-founded the Black Wellness Cooperative, a not-for-profit that works to bring wellness resources to underserved communities. Her hope over the coming years is to be part of a movement making yoga, fitness and wellness spaces more inclusive, accessible and diverse.

She did her 200hr YTT with Shanti Yoga, the same studio where she was inspired by her teachers to deepen her practice and eventually follow her dream of becoming a yoga teacher full time. Along the way she discovered a passion for teaching other teachers and helping them discover their own gifts and destinies along this path. Inspired to be more and to know more she has assisted a 200hr YTT to be certified as a Teacher Trainer, taken her Yin TT, attended various workshops and trainings in meditation, facilitation, and leadership as well as social justice issues with industry leaders. She is completing her 300hr YTT with Rene Quenell, in a Tantra lineage descended from the Himalayan masters. She is passionate about honouring tradition while meeting students where they are and brings a wealth of knowledge to each and every class along with her playful, creative and fiery teaching style.

As a writer and storyteller, she loves the idea that a yoga class can lead you somewhere, that you can tell a story with body and breath and the energetic impact that results when they come together with intent. By sprinkling philosophy, spirituality and the 8 Limbs of Yoga into her classes in accessible ways she tries to pass along the greatest gift this practice has given her, “Ultimately this is a practice of connectivity. It connects us with the world. It connects us with ourselves. And it connects us with each other.”

  • E-RYT 500

Kyla is inspired by the act of leading others and empowering them to live their truth. She believes in the power of connecting breath and movement with those around her. Throughout her life, she has enjoyed coaching people and creating a space where they feel comfortable and confident in order to reach their full potential. From her 800 hours of training, she vows to keep the tradition of Krishnamacharya’s yoga lineage alive thanks to one of her great teachers, Ryan Leier.

Kyla will incorporate a balance of strength and serenity into her teachings during the program. Her compassionate nature makes her a perfect fit as the YTT student liaison. She gives herself fully to new trainees who need guidance and support during the training.

  • Stephanie Morton has been teaching yoga since 2011. As a long distance runner and running coach, she has worked with many endurance athletes but also has a keen interest in yoga for healthy aging.

Her approach to yoga is pragmatic but grounded in traditional teachings and yogic philosophy. Her classes combine asanas and functional movement practices with pranayama and meditation techniques that support every lifestyle. She also specializes in pre and post-natal yoga.

Originally from Halifax, she recently returned to Nova Scotia with her family after having lived and worked in Playa del Carmen, Mexico for 15 years. She has a decade of yoga studio management experience and has been a lead trainer in many 200 hours yoga teacher training courses. She is passionate about supporting and mentoring yoga teachers.

  • In order to prepare for training, we ask that you continue to practice yoga (both on and off the mat)! A daily practice is important. Your daily practice will vary from day to day and sometimes it may range from 5 minutes to 2 hours. Keep in mind the practice might be physical asanas (poses), meditation, breathing, reading a yoga book, a quiet walk in nature, eating healthy nourishing meals, etc. We ask that you come with an open mind and an open heart that is eager to learn!

  • It is not necessary to want to become a teacher. Many people take the training to simply deepen their personal practice and expand their knowledge of yoga. It is common for people to initially think they do not want to teach but once they get underway with the training program that can change. Whether you plan to teach or not, have an open mind and enjoy this wonderful experience.

  • Shanti Hot Yoga has a dedicated team of yoga instructors who currently fill our teaching requirements. That being said, Shanti is always supportive of growth and we have seen many opportunities come along for new teachers. In fact, most of our current teachers have done trainings with us over the years, While we do commit to providing you with the tools to begin teaching, it is up to you to seek places to practice your skills and teach classes. If you are interested in potentially teaching for us someday, we do ask that you express your interest and stay connected in the community.

  • The distance-learning portion of the training is to be completed within roughly 2 months after the in-person training (exact date will be announced at your training).

Full attendance and completion of all course work are 100% mandatory.
